How Can We Succeed Like Tom Brady in Any Undertaking!
What does Tom Brady know that we can implement to achieve our goals and dreams?
—
Tom Brady marvels us with his athleticism. His ability to consistently perform at championship levels is outstanding.
Whether you watched him attain GOAT (Greatest of All Time) status or not, you most likely know of his championship feats in the National Football League (NFL). To date, he has played in ten Super Bowl championship games, winning seven. No one in the history of the game can match his success.
Is it possible for us to perform at his level in our life? Absolutely! What can we learn from him to attain our life dreams?
Tom Brady did not win any of his Super Bowls on gameday. And, we won’t achieve our goals on the day of attainment either. I’ll submit he won seven Super Bowls and any future achievements he realizes many days before they occurred. We win before game day too!
His path began innocently one day with an initial spark that grew into a fire in his heart and mind.
He is a winner because he follows the seven steps below, and we win when we do likewise. Looking back, when I didn’t follow them, I fell short of my goals. When I followed the steps, I succeeded every time.
—
How, you ask? The formula is simple, but execution separates championship performance from typical results.
First, we must make a Choice. Too easy, you say? As the adage says, “If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll likely get there.” More often than not, we don’t achieve something because we never chose to pursue it.
We must first have a vision of where we want to go. Recently maligned Christopher Columbus had a specific idea to find a shorter route to the Far East. Even though he did not achieve his dream, he completed more than he imagined finding what they called The New World. He affirmed, “If you set a goal, you will achieve more even if you don’t attain it than if you set no goal.”
We must make the initial choice leading to success, but as we’ll see shortly, we must also make reaffirming choices every day until we win the championship.
—
Second, we must choose to take a Chance. No institution on this earth will eliminate life’s risks. Winners take risks because their desire for something better in life is more significant than their fear of failure or regret.
We waste our vision until we choose to risk where we are for where we want to go.
—
Third, we must Change our behavior. There is no change on earth without action, and we must act on our vision and its risk to propel us toward the life we desire.
Some people believe changing their routine is a four-letter word. Their comfort is more significant than their desire for something else. There is no shame in achieving and remaining at a level of contentment, but it is incompatible without people desiring more during their life.
—
Fourth, we must Channel our energy narrowly to focus on the vision, risks, and action we have embarked on achieving. I have been guilty too often of expending large amounts of energy in unfocused activities, which resulted in marginal success.
When I narrowed my focus and exerted the same level of energy, I achieved much greater success. Think of releasing a balloon into a room. It will fly uncontrolled around the room and then dive to the floor devoid of energy. The same balloon released on a narrow track will speed down the path to a pre-determined destination before its power evaporates.
Our choice, chance, change, and channel are like the track above. They serve to maximize our efforts’ energy and impact, resulting in a more substantial benefit for that profit from our production.
—
Fifth, we must make a Commitment to achieve our goal or dream. Our pledge requires a dedication to continuing the pursuit of our goal regardless of the obstacles. Most of us have launched ambitious efforts only to discard them after they encountered resistance.
When we walk down the street focused on our destination, we fix our eyes on the finish line. If a pack of small dogs starts nipping at our ankles, it is easy to drop our focus to our feet. Without an unwavering spirit, we cease to progress and abandon our quest.
Time has lost the name of the wise person who noted, “Dedication is the ability and determination to complete a resolution long after the mood which it was made is gone.” To accomplish our mission, we must progress relentlessly toward it.
—
Sixth, success only results from Consistent efforts. Similar to commitment, it is imperative to persist regularly despite distractions, perceived better opportunities, and setbacks. The larger the goal, the more energy is required to secure it.
People like Walt Disney, the Wright Brothers, Abraham Lincoln, and others are known for their achievements, but few know the length, breadth, and depth of their daily work to reach their pinnacles.
A common thread amongst them and other of the greatest champions in life is early setbacks. They used the bitter taste of their shortfalls as motivation rather than accept defeat. Their examples show us our possibilities.
—
Seventh, we must Come Again over and over. Champions show up every day with their best effort. Many people slack off when the coach or boss isn’t looking at them
True champions always leave nothing left on the field or workplace. They withstand others telling them they make them look bad and tend to relax when no one is pushing them. They are self-motivated because they desire more than the team or business expects from them.
Champions set their targets of achievement, and pursue them all day, every day until accomplished. They then establish new and higher goals for themselves, knowing that they will not achieve their final mountaintop until life is complete.
—
Finally, when we exercise the seven C’s above, we will stand as Champions on the mountain of success! It won’t be easy, and the effort is not for the faint-hearted. Even if we don’t achieve the highest peak, we will stand at a higher elevation than those timid souls who never departed from the life of comfort.
Hall-of-Fame and former coach at Oklahoma, Bud Wilkinson, who knew a lot about winning said, “If you’re going to be a champion, you must be willing to pay a greater price.”
It all begins with our choice. When I have followed all of the steps and achieved national and international reward and recognition, the accomplishment overshadows the worthwhile sacrifice and effort. It is a great feeling I hope everyone experiences.

What are the Seven Steps to Championship Performance in a Simple Formula?
Choice + Chance + Change + Channel + Commitment + Consistent + Come Again = Champion!
Or
Vision + Risk + Action + Focus + Dedication + Persistence + Every day = Champion!
—
We can do it! The question is, what dream do we have we’re willing to pay the price to achieve?
